Empyrean Bliss
Empyrean - relating to heaven or the sky. Bliss - perfect happiness; great joy. This zine is about photography and the role it plays in nostalgia. Empyrean refers to the light shed upon the earth by the sun, and bliss refers to the false sense of perfection we feel with nostalgia for the past. The multichannel risograph printing creates a cohesive, dream-like feeling to all of the images, making them feel like memories of the past. The illustrations are found imagery from an ecclesiastical handbook, tying into the concept of empyrea. The zine is made in an accordion fold construction, allowing each spread to seamlessly flow into the next, the blocks of concrete poetry guiding the viewer's eye throughout.
